The iPad Mini could soon see notable innovations for the first time in years. According to a report from a mostly well-informed source, Apple is planning to introduce the first model with an OLED display in the fall.
In addition to the launch of Apple’s first smartphone with a foldable display for the US computer company, autumn could also be interesting from a customer perspective with a view to the company’s cheaper products. The first iPad Mini with an OLED screen is said to be launching in October. This is reported by the US Economic Service Bloomberg or its Apple specialist Mark Gurman. As Gurman claims to have learned from his usually well-informed sources, Apple is planning to launch the iPad Mini with an OLED panel by October 2026. It would be the first time that a refresh has been carried out since 2021, after all there was only a small upgrade in the form of a new CPU in 2024.
It is likely that Apple will also use a younger platform in addition to the new OLED screen on the iPad Mini. However, given the sharp increase in memory prices and other higher component costs, the price of the device is likely to increase significantly compared to its predecessor model. Higher costs for using an OLED panel instead of the previously used LCD could also contribute to a higher end customer price. Apple is said to be planning to refresh additional iPad models next year, although it will probably stick to its usual pace for introducing new products, according to Gurman.
There is talk that Apple wants to update the iPad Air in spring 2027, which will then also have an OLED panel. The launch of a new iPad Pro is also expected in the same period, with which new editions of the Apple Pencil could then also be launched. In the basic model of the Apple iPad, however, “only” an LCD screen will still be installed.
