Apple iPad Pro 2022 Performance Review
Apple not only launched the iPad 10 this year but also relaunched the iPad Pro. The biggest novelty here is the Apple M2 chipset, which now promises significantly more performance. Our colleague tested the two Pro models for two months. In the video, he explains for whom the new tablets are worthwhile and for whom not.
More power, but not used yet
Unsurprisingly, the new Apple iPad Pro performs a good deal better than its predecessor in benchmarks. In everyday use, however, the in-house M2 chip does not bring any real advantages, at least for the time being: image processing with Photoshop and Co., video rendering with Adobe Premiere Rush or games such as PUBG Mobile and Asphalt 9 run just as well as on the iPad Pro M1 chip. This is simply because there is still no software that can actually use the offered performance.
The other equipment remains almost unchanged compared to the previous year’s model. Depending on the model, users get between 8 GB and 16 GB of RAM and 128 GB to 2 TB of storage space. While the 11-inch variant uses a normal (but excellent) LCD, the 12.9-inch iPad Pro offers a Liquid Retina XDR display with stronger contrast and better black levels. HDR content in particular therefore looks particularly good on the latter.
Both models have metal housing and are of high quality. The design and dimensions remain unchanged. This means that existing keyboard covers and protective cases from the predecessors can continue to be used.
Apple Pencil 2 with hover function
There is at least one small (software) innovation when using the Apple Pencil 2: it now supports a hover feature. This ensures that the tip of the pen is already recognized by the tablet when it is up to 12 millimeters away. This allows various functions to be performed before touching the display. For example, operating elements can be visually highlighted or a preview can be displayed when drawing.
