Apple Watch Series 8 Pro: New design only for the expensive Pro model?
A few months before its release, rumors of the new Apple Watch Series 8 are growing. Insiders are particularly impressed by the upcoming “Pro” model. Now it is in the room that only it could open with a new design that should surprise.
Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman discusses Apple’s plans for the next generation of smartwatches in his weekly Power On newsletter. However, the strong focus on a significantly more stable robust variant suggests a different two-class society. It is therefore quite possible that the American manufacturer will only present the possible Apple Watch Series 8 Pro with renewed housing and a new design language this year.
The new flagship should offer a larger screen, new sensors, and a high-capacity battery. Gurman is speculating on several days of battery life thanks to a new power-saving mode. According to his sources, the screen, which is expected to increase by seven percent, could become so large that the Pro version in 47 or even 50 millimeters will appeal to significantly fewer customers than the classic watch models.
Without flats: a new design is called “evolution”.
Since the introduction of the Apple Watch Series 4 in 2018, the new smartwatch would have a completely new design for the first time. Contrary to rumors surrounding the previously leaked “flat side” look, Gurman is rejecting it. The same applies to an often suspicious case with a round shape. There is talk of an even more stable Titan, which should be available for the Pro version. Only the Apple Watch Edition is currently supplied with this material – the starting price is 829 euros.
Until there are new tangible leaks, there are again many question marks behind the design. It remains to be seen whether Apple will actually go down the road of just introducing the new design for its flagship model and the non-Pro models of the Apple Watch Series 8 getting nothing. The iPhone 14 family could also meet this fate. The change from a classic notch to a punch-hole front camera should also only apply to the Pro models. One of the reasons for this may be the persistent bottlenecks at suppliers, which make it impossible to review the entire portfolio. The presentation of the Apple Watch Series 8 (Pro) is expected in the fall of 2022.
