ASUS Announces ROG Flow X13 Gaming Notebook And XG Mobile External Graphics Docking Station

Asus ROG Flow X13

During CES 2021, ASUS released the ROG Flow X13 “2-in-1” convertible notebook along with Zephyrus Duo 15 SE and Strix Scar 15/17 series. At the same time, ASUS also created a supporting peripheral for ROG Flow X13, which is the ROG XG Mobile external graphics docking station with the highest optional GeForce RTX 3080.

Even if it can accommodate an external graphics card of the highest RTX 3080 level, XG Mobile is only 6% equivalent to a conventional eGPU-15.5×20.8×2.9 cm and weighs only 1 kg (2.2 lb).

The last time the company released a similar product which was the ROG XG Station in 2007. However, XG Mobile can have a built-in RTX 3080 graphics card with the main frequency of 1810 MHz, power consumption of 150W, and ROG Boost support. Compared with traditional heat pipes, XG Mobile also uses a unique vapour chamber (Vapor Chamber) heat dissipation solution, which increases the contact area of components by 54%.

Thanks to the customized eGPU expansion port, ROG Flow X13 can make full use of the PCIe 3.0 x8 bandwidth (63Gbps) directly connected to the CPU, and the cable length has reached 41 cm. In addition, the port also incorporates 10Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2, making the overall eGPU performance possible due to the pure Thunderbolt 4 expansion scheme.

In addition to eGPU, XG Mobile also provides a wealth of expansion ports, including four 10Gbps USB Type-A 3.2 Gen 1, SD card reader, Gigabit Ethernet, and DisplayPort 1.4 + HDMI 2.0a display output. More importantly, the power adapter included with XG Mobile can provide up to 280W of input power for ROG Flow X13 laptops and eGPUs.

In terms of processor, the Supernova version of ROG Flow X13 can be AMD Ryzen R9-5980HS, supplemented by up to 32GB LPDDR4x-4266 memory + 1TB PCIe NVMe SSD.

Even if the eGPU is unplugged, the notebook can still run normally, the built-in GeForce GTX 1650 alone can reach 1255 MHz frequency and 35W power in acceleration mode. ROG Flow X13 is equipped with a 13.4-inch (aspect ratio 16:10) screen, and an optional 4K 60Hz or 1080p 120Hz IPS panel.

Both screens have obtained Pantone certification, supplemented by scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla protective glass, and the battery life of the whole machine can reach 10 hours. In terms of heat dissipation, ROG Flow X13 uses a Thermal Grizzly liquid metal compound similar to ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE to conduct heat.

Two heat pipes can quickly dissipate the heat generated by the CPU, GPU, and VRM power supply modules, and the heat dissipation module has a special dust-proof air duct.

ROG Flow X13 convertible + XG Mobile external graphics docking kit is now open for pre-order on ASUS official website, the price is 2999.99 US dollars (about 19360 RMB).
