Believe it or not, Samsung could roll out One UI 8 much sooner than expected

The multiple delays in the rollout of One UI 7 have left owners of Samsung Galaxy devices disappointed. While the manufacturer was previously among the first to roll out software updates after Google, it has faced unprecedented hurdles with the Android 15-based update, which is now expected to land sometime in April. Now, a prominent source of Samsung leaks claims Samsung could mend its ways with One UI 8, which will be based on Android 16.

As per Ice Universe on X/Twitter, Samsung will bring One UI 8 to its devices “sooner than previously thought,” citing “initial information” obtained from an unnamed source (via SamMobile). If true, this will be a big step up from the company’s current update rollout strategy. The trio of Galaxy S25 phones are the only smartphones to run One UI 7 out of the box right now, while the upcoming budget-ranged Galaxy A06 5G also features the new software by default.

The One UI 7 fiasco doesn’t inspire much confidence

While Ice Universe didn’t share specific details about One UI 8, the notion that it will be available sooner than expected sounds somewhat obvious, especially when we consider Google’s supercharged release timeline for Android 16. Perhaps Samsung is already laying the groundwork to launch One UI 8 soon after Android 16 stable is rolled out to Pixel devices sometime by the end of the second quarter. However, considering what we’ve seen with One UI 7 so far, this may be wishful thinking.
Nevertheless, given Ice Universe’s track record, there’s enough reason for Galaxy smartphone owners to be hopeful about this new revelation. But much like any other leak, we recommend taking this with a dose of skepticism, at least until we have official word from Samsung on this front. If you can’t wait until April to try out the final, polished version of One UI 7, the newly released Galaxy S25 smartphones are worth checking out.
