Canon has announced the development of a groundbreaking 410-megapixel, 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor, setting a new record for pixel density in its size category. The company describes it as “the largest number of pixels ever achieved” in a full-frame sensor, making it a significant milestone in imaging technology.
This revolutionary sensor is built to deliver extreme levels of detail, positioning it as a game-changer in fields such as surveillance, medicine, and industrial applications—industries that demand unmatched resolution. With a staggering resolution of 24K, the 410-megapixel sensor has 198 times the resolution of HD and 12 times that of 8K. Typically, ultra-high megapixel counts are found in medium-format cameras. However, Canon’s decision to integrate such immense resolution into a 35mm full-frame sensor opens up significant potential. While this sensor is a marvel of modern engineering, it’s unlikely to show up in consumer cameras anytime soon. Its current design and capabilities are tailored for specialized industries rather than everyday photography.
