Controversial innovation Recall now also for AMD & Intel
It took a while, but now Microsoft has now released a preliminary version of Windows 11 for the first time, in which users of PCs with processors from Intel and AMD can also try out the new Recall function. A modern computer with an integrated NPU is required. Microsoft
Recall is being tested more widely
Since November, Windows Recall can be tried out on Copilot+ PCs with Qualcomm’s ARM platforms. Now, with the new Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.2510 (KB5048780), owners of systems with AMD and Intel CPUs also have this option. At the same time, the “Click To Do” function will also be expanded beyond Recall.
If you want to try out Recall, you need a platform with a sufficiently powerful Neural Processing Unit (NPU). This applies to computers with the latest AMD Ryzen processors and to models that have a chip from the Intel “Lunar Lake” series, i.e. from the Intel Core Ultra 200V series. In order to actually be able to use Recall with the Insider Preview build, you also have to install the latest drivers for the GPU of the Ryzen or the NPU of the Intel SoCs. All activity on the host PC searchable
As with the ARM-based Copilot+ PCs, Recall allows users to quickly and easily return to specific tasks, images, applications, documents or other files using simple natural language queries by describing their contents. With the user’s consent, the system records screenshots and other information, which is then processed using text and image recognition and made available for searching via AI Copilot.
There are a few additional requirements in order to be able to actively use Recall, because the function requires, among other things, some memory and can only be used on mobile devices if the battery level is more than 20 percent. In general, the user must proactively activate Recall and agree that their data will be recorded with Recall for analysis and later searching. With the new preliminary version of Windows 11, Microsoft is now making Recall available to users in Europe for the first time, after it was previously only offered in the USA.
The system is also available on computers with a German language setting. At the same time, the other AI functions of Windows 11, which were previously only offered for Qualcomm-based systems, will also be available for the first time on PCs with AMD and Intel CPUs that have an NPU with at least 40 TOPS AI performance.
This applies to both Cocreator in Paint, with which you can use AI to generate more complex images from simple sketches, as well as the Restyle Image and Image Creator functions in the Windows 11 Photos app. The latter function can be used in a natural way Have your own AI images generated directly in the photos app using your own language. Restyling in the Photos app allows AI-powered editing of existing images and photos with a range of different filters.
