Doctolib: Nvidia joins the doctor’s appointment platform

The US graphics card manufacturer and AI chip giant Nvidia is joining the French healthcare platform Doctolib. According to CEO Jen-Hsun Huang, Nvidia is acquiring minority shares in Doctolib and wants to “start the AI revolution in Europe”.
Nvidia invests an unknown sum
As Doctolib and Nvidia announced yesterday, the US graphics specialist will acquire shares in Doctolib and will in future be a close partner supplying AI technologies for the French company on a large scale. How large Nvidia’s shares in Doctolib should be in the future and how much money will be paid for it initially remained unclear. Nvidia is giving up a position on the supervisory board, according to Doctolib boss Stanislas Niox-Château, who is also a co-founder of the company. With the money from Nvidia, Doctolib wants to accelerate the recruitment of new employees and thus also advance the development of its own, proprietary AI models, according to Niox-Château AFP further. Apparently the main aim is to create alternatives to the language models of US providers such as OpenAI or Anthropic.
Doctolib wants to develop health AI assistants
Doctolib is also active in Germany and is the leading provider of a platform for booking and managing medical appointments. With Nvidia’s entry, they want to greatly accelerate work on a “personal health assistant for patients,” said the Doctolib boss, according to the French newspaper Le Monde. This will be one of Doctolib’s top priorities over the next two years, along with similar AI-powered assistants that will take on “administrative and clinical tasks for caregivers,” it said.
Niox-Château also announced that Doctolib wanted to use Nvidia’s chips, computing power and open software to create an independent AI platform that would train with its own models, use its own data and be controlled by Doctolib itself. Back in August, Doctolib launched a research program in which data from the platform’s approximately 50 million users in Europe will be used to “improve health measures through artificial intelligence.” The market value of Doctolib is currently said to be almost four billion euros.
