Epic Games: Unreal Editor for Fortnite is slated for this year

Publisher Epic Games wants Fortnite players to be able to create their own game content later this year. This requires the existing Unreal Editor to be adapted to the game. Currently, own content can only be added to the game through detours. While Fortnite is already one of the most successful games of all time, Epic Games boss Tim Sweeney sees a lot of room for improvement. The developer studio recently released the latest version of the Unreal Engine. The software comes with tools to create detailed environments and game content. Unreal Engine 5 can be downloaded along with the editor. However, the tools are not designed for normal players, but rather for experienced developers.

Developers already have the ability to edit and extend Fortnite. However, this requires a lot of technical background knowledge. That’s why Epic Games plans to release a special Fortnite version of the already existing Unreal Editor. That’s what Tim Sweeney has to say about it Fast company approved. The editor can be included with the game or installed with a click. The program should take over all functions of the already available version. It remains open to what extent the software will be simplified so that users with little experience can design their own game content.

Developers are allowed to market their game content

In addition to the editor itself, Epic Games wants to create an ecosystem that allows creators to market their content. The Roblox platform should serve as a model. At the moment, however, it is still unclear when the editors and the platform will see the light of day. However, the Unreal Editor for Fortnite should be released by the end of 2022 at the latest.
