As per data and statistic, Samsung has lessened the usage of Exynos chipsets in its phones and tablets. For instance, Samsung used Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset in its Galaxy s23 series. Moreover, the usage of Exynos SoCs is also lessen in mid-range and low budget devices as compared to previous years.
Although it is evident that fewer Exynos chipsets are being used, we lacked data on this trend. Thankfully, that is starting to change now. Recently, Canalys released a research that breaks down the worldwide smartphone market by processor vendor. The analysis includes some discouraging information on Samsung Semiconductor and Exynos chipsets.
The study states that 13 million smartphones with chipsets from Samsung Semiconductors were shipped in Q4 2023, a 48% decrease from Q4 2022. Consequently, the company’s smartphone chipset sales for the most recent quarter was USD 5 billion, a 44% decrease from Q4 2022.
Samsung’s Galaxy S24 lineup uses the Exynos chipset, in contrast to the Galaxy S23 series. Thus, in this and the next quarters, there should be a significant increase in the shipment of smartphones equipped with Exynos chipsets, which should translate into a sharp rise in Samsung Semiconductors’ income. Future figures would be interesting to see.
According to the Canalys research, the greatest number of smartphones (117 million) in Q4 2023 were powered by MediaTek CPUs. With SoCs powering 78 million smartphones, Apple ranked as the second-largest chipset supplier, and Qualcomm ranked third with processors powering 69 million devices.
