Facebook-owned Instagram launches TikTok-like video sharing feature

Facebook-owned social media platform Instagram had added a new short-form video feature to the application which is a direct challenge to the video-sharing mobile application TikTok.

Instagram’s new feature, known as Reels, allows its users to share 15-second videos set to audio, such as music. According to the details shared by the company, Reels allows Instagram users to record short-form videos for editing, audio, and effects. In a blog post, the social media giant said that Reels invites the users to create fun videos to share with the friends or anyone using Instagram.

On the other hand, TikTok is a video creating and sharing mobile application which allows its users to capture the video clips, lip-sync to their favorite songs and clips, create short videos, as well as view the clips and videos of others using the platform.

In TikTok, there is also an option that allows users to live stream videos and directly interact with other users through the online chat system. It also allows the users to watch the videos created by the other users without ever creating an account on it.

It is pertinent to mention here that, last month, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) issued a final warning to TikTok. As per the details, the PTA asked the management of the China-based company to put in place a comprehensive mechanism to control “obscenity, vulgarity, and immorality through its social media platform”.
