FCC Speed Test App to collect broadband’s speed across the US

To collect data about broadband speed across the US, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has launched an app for Android and iOS devices to test the speed and send the data back to the FCC via the app.

According to the source, the FCC Speed Test App is part of the Commission’s Broadband Data Collection initiative, aiming to collect an overview of broadband in the country.

This app is similar to other speed-testing apps, which provide tools to test their mobile and in-home broadband networks’ performance.

In a statement, Acting Chairwoman Rosenworvel said:

To close the gap between digital haves and have nots, we are working to build a comprehensive, user-friendly dataset on broadband availability,

Expanding the base of consumers who use the FCC Speed Test app will enable us to provide improved coverage information to the public and add to the measurement tools we’re developing to show where broadband is truly available throughout the United States.
