On the technical side, the successor to the Charge 4 can be certified as a real upgrade at first glance. If a grayscale OLED was still in use in the predecessor, the Charge 5 can shine with a new 1.04 inch AMOLED panel. In addition to the good color display, it should also shine twice as brightly as its predecessor but still offers an always-on display mode. Also an upgrade in the previous comparison: Charge 5 should last up to 7 days without charging, but always-on and SpO2 function shortens this runtime significantly. The charging process from 0 to 100 percent should be completed in 2 hours. GPS and NFC are also on board, the latter can be used for payments via Fitbit Pay.

New Tricks

The Charge 5 then looks at many new fitness features from the Sense premium model. Among other things, the EDA sensor is used here, which determines the body’s reaction to stress through tiny changes in the sweat glands on the fingertips. An app should then improve stress management. There is also an optical heart rate monitor that saves a measured value every 5 seconds in normal mode (1 second in training mode) as well as red and infrared sensors for monitoring oxygen saturation and skin temperature.

On the software side, Fitbit delivers Charge 5 with 6-month premium membership for all pre-orderers and naturally wants to make its additional services, which are otherwise chargeable, more palatable. Among other things, 200 workouts and over 300 meditation exercises are offered here, and as a bonus, the Calm app is also integrated, which is currently enjoying great success in the areas of sleep, meditation, and relaxation.
