Galaxy S25 Edge protects display with Next-Gen version of Gorilla Glass

Samsung relies on innovative display technology at the Galaxy S25 EDGE: Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2. Despite the ultra -slim design of the smartphone, the new glass ceramic is intended to ensure improved durability and was specially developed for thin devices.

Ultra slank and robust at the same time

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge will be equipped with a new generation of display protection. The South Korean manufacturer relies on Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 to equip its new flagship smartphone with a particularly resistant surface. With a thickness of just 5.85 millimeters, the Galaxy S25 Edge will be one of the thinnest smartphones on the market.

The new glass ceramic combines advanced glass technology with a crystalline structure. The break resistance is increased by crystals that are embedded in the glass matrix and the crack spread is inhibited. At the same time, optical transparency is preserved. Corning ion exchange methods additionally reinforces the material and improves the durability of the display protection.

According to an official announcement by Samsung, the new display material was created in close cooperation between Samsung and Corning. The partnership between the two companies is not new-Samsung has been relating to corning technology for its premium smartphones for years. However, according to the Koreans, the development of Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 is significant progress, since it is specially tailored to the challenges of ultra -thin devices.

The development of ever thinner smartphones presents manufacturers with special challenges. Thinner devices are more susceptible to deformations and breaks, which is why materials are crucial to protect the screen. The new material not only has to survive falls and scratches, but also the daily wear through bags, keys and other objects. Laboratory tests have shown that Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 has a 25 percent improved scratch resistance compared to the predecessor.

Market launch is imminent

The Galaxy S25 Edge will be officially presented on May 13th at 9 a.m. Korean period (02:00 with us). The presentation is transmitted as a livestream on Samsung’s YouTube channel. According to reports, the device should initially come onto the market in South Korea before it will be available in the USA and Europe at the end of May. In addition to the innovative display protection, the Galaxy S25 Edge is expected to be equipped with a dual camera that contains a 200 megapixel main sensor. Further technical details as well as price and availability information will be announced at the official presentation.
