Galaxy Watch 3 finally gets updated with One UI Watch 5 faces

Later this year, Samsung’s One UI Watch 5 upgrade made its way onto the Galaxy Watch 4 and 5 lineups after making its debut with the Galaxy Watch 6 series. Although this update is unavailable for older Tizen OS smartwatches, Samsung did announce a few months ago that the Galaxy Watch 3 and Active 2 will receive some of the newest watch faces.

At least for the Galaxy Watch 3, that moment has finally arrived. Stretched Time and Perpetual are two new watch faces that are part of the latest One UI upgrade that is now rolling out. Firmware versions R840XXU1DWK2 and R850XXU1DWK2 are included in the update, which is now rolling out across Europe. Tizen OS version 5.5.0.2 is unaltered.

Perhaps this is the final feature update

These new watch faces should ultimately be available for the Galaxy Watch Active 2, perhaps with the release of new software. Though they have matured nicely, these two Tizen watches have aged. Additionally, time is running out for them, even though Samsung promised to sustain them for at least three years. 2019 saw the release of the Galaxy Watch 2 Active, and 2019 saw the release of the Watch 3.

We won’t know for sure until the Galaxy Watch 7 range is released later in the year, but these two watch faces that are taken from the One UI Watch 5 may be the final features these older smartwatches get. Currently, you can open the Galaxy Watch 3’s settings by heading to Watch settings > Watch Software Update > Download and Install.
