Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 are the first Samsung foldables to receive Android 14 updates

For the past few months, Samsung has been testing the One UI 6 beta software on the finest Galaxy devices. But for the Galaxy S23 and, more recently, the S22 series, it has only released the stable Android 14 upgrade thus far. The One UI 6 deployment is currently being aggressively expanded by the Korean behemoth, and the update is now accessible for its 2023 foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5.

The first non-Pixel foldables to run the most recent version of Android are the Fold 5 and Flip 5 US owners, who have posted on Reddit that the stable Android 14 build is now available for their smartphones on Verizon’s network. Along with that, Software Fold 5 is also updated with details of BWK9 firmware, highlighting the amendments that came in. Currently unavailable for unlocked devices or other carriers, the One UI 6 upgrade for these phones should be available soon. In the upcoming weeks, more areas and carrier types should be able to access it.

To obtain the update if you’re using Verizon’s network, go to Settings > Software Update > Download and install. Although the One UI 6 firmware is large, more than 3GB, you should download it first and connect your Flip or Fold to a Wi-Fi network. Samsung’s Flip and Fold smartphones are among the greatest folding phones on our list, in large part because of how quickly the company releases Android upgrades.

Samsung has also published the stable Android 14 update for the Galaxy A54 in the US, along with its 2023 foldables (via SamMobile). However, AT&T’s network is using the updated software, not Verizon’s. It is, however, the first mid-range smartphone to run the most recent version of Android. The upgrade from the Korean giant should not be too long behind, as it is also testing One UI 6 beta for the Galaxy A34.

Beyond the plethora of security and privacy-oriented upgrades seen in Android 14, One UI 6 has numerous more features. There’s a revamped Quick Settings panel with larger tiles, a new ‘Samsung’ system font, and improved system apps. The Camera app has new icons, and Samsung has integrated a lot of the features of Camera Assistant straight into it. The November 2023 security patch, which addresses over 60 security flaws, is also included in the BWK9 firmware.

After applying the update, you could find that your phone has more space because One UI 6 computes free storage space differently. Before the end of this month, a significant number of Galaxy smartphones will receive the stable One UI 6 update, according to an Android 14 release timeline that Samsung released for Europe. However, because carriers typically need extra approvals and testing, the firmware might not be instantly available on your phone.
