Game of Thrones spin off Trailer Released

The fantasy series Game of Thrones returns to the screens this year with a prequel: House of the Dragon then explores the rise and fall of House Targaryen, a new teaser trailer now promises a massive fantasy spectacle filled with drama, intrigue – and of course, dragons.

The Story of the Targaryens

If those responsible at HBO have their way, the first of several planned offshoots should be as successful as Game of Thrones was at its best. With ten episodes initially planned, House of the Dragon will likely be much less extensive. It is based on the book Fire and Blood, written by George RR Martin, of course, and tells a story that took place about 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones.

A reunion with familiar characters should probably not be expected, instead, the series focuses on Daenerys Targaryen’s ancestors, their rule over Westeros, and the events that should ultimately lead us to the starting point of Game of Thrones. The Hohenturm house also seems to play a decisive role. The cast includes Paddy Considine as King Viserys I, Emma D’Arcy as Rhaenyra Targaryen, Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, and Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower.

In Europe a Day Later

While House of the Dragon will be shown in the US on HBO/HBO Max from August 21, the series will be shown a day later in Germany on the pay-TV channel Sky (Sky Ticket/Sky Q/Sky Atlantic). The series is only just ahead of another fantasy giant: The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power starts September 2 on Amazon Prime Video, which then tells the story before the movies.
