Generative AI Tops the List of Most Desired Subscription Services Among Young Adults

Generative artificial intelligence (AI) has quickly become the most sought-after subscription service among consumers in their 20s and 30s, according to a recent survey by market research firm Macromill Embrain.

The poll, which involved 1,000 adults, revealed that 94.8% of respondents have used subscription services through applications. The findings, reported by Yonhap News Agency, highlight generative AI’s growing appeal, particularly among younger age groups.

For consumers in their 20s, generative AI topped the list as the most desired new subscription service, with 20% of respondents selecting it, followed by health and home appliance services at 18%. Among those in their 30s, household chore services ranked first at 20.5%, but generative AI closely followed at 19.5%. When responses from both age groups were combined, generative AI emerged as the most popular option.

By contrast, respondents in their 40s to 60s showed a preference for health and home appliances, which garnered a combined response rate of 25%.

Most Commonly Used Subscription Services

The survey also shed light on the subscription services people currently use the most. Video streaming platforms took the top spot, with 60.8% of respondents using them, followed by shopping memberships at 52.4% and bundled internet and TV products at 45.8%.

Regarding the number of subscriptions, 39.8% of respondents said they were subscribed to three or four services, while 33.9% reported using one or two. The majority of users (30.5%) spend less than 30,000 won (~$20.80) per month on subscriptions. However, a smaller group (14.9%) indicated they spend over 150,000 won monthly.

Government and Industry Collaboration on AI Development

Meanwhile, the South Korean government and the ruling People Power Party (PPP) are working to boost the country’s AI competitiveness. Discussions are underway to analyze AI trends and strategies, including the rise of China’s generative AI service, DeepSeek. Efforts are also being made to expand AI computing infrastructure to strengthen national capabilities in the field.

As generative AI continues to transform industries and lifestyles, its demand among younger consumers signals the increasing relevance of innovative technologies in everyday life.
