Google Pixel Fold surfaced in Android 12L beta

With the second beta version of the Android 12L operating system, graphics appeared showing how to insert SIM cards into foldable Google smartphones. If you look at the code, it suggests one of the possible names for the Pixel Fold, namely Pipit. Actually, the plans for a foldable smartphone from Google should be put on hold for the time being. At least that is what much of the tech world thought, but we might have been wrong.

According to 9to5Google Information about the Pixel Fold appeared in the code of the Android 12L Beta 2 operating system. These indicate one of the two possible names for the smartphone and show an animation of how to insert a SIM card into a foldable Google mobile phone. On the one hand, it could be remnants of the code that will be removed in the finished version, on the other hand, it gives every fan of the Pixel series hopes that Google has not yet completely buried its own plans. This information should therefore be treated with a bit of caution.

At the moment, Samsung is dominating the market for foldable smartphones and a first serious “opponent” has not yet emerged. However, that could change with a Google smartphone.

The picture shows an unfolded, foldable Google smartphone into which a SIM card is inserted. So far, it was actually expected that the Google Pixel Fold should have a similarity to the flagship from Samsung. By using the SIM in the outer display, which we know from the Oppo Find N, one can assume that Google’s design is more based on the foldable smartphone from China.

Google Pixel Fold so far info?

While the Oppo Find N is gaining more and more fans in China, there is hardly any information about the Google Pixel Fold beyond leaks and rumors. The 12-megapixel camera module is likely to be based on the Pixel 5, for example. This would make the camera a bit weaker than in the Pixel 6. In addition, two working names are known for the Google Pixel Fold. On the one hand “Pipit” and on the other hand “Passport”.

At this point in time, of course, nobody knows whether the American company will decide on one of the names or whether it might even end up being called “Falti”. In addition, the chipset of the foldable smartphone was also leaked. According to 9to5google, the Google Tensor Chip, which is already used in the Pixel 6, is supposed to provide the drive in the Google Pixel Fold. Whether and when we will see the foldable Google smartphone and what leaks we will of course have to wait and see.

So far it is only a matter of speculation, but this gives rise to hope for a Samsung competitor. Do you think Google would have a chance to score points in the market with the Google Pixel Fold? Or is Samsung dominating the offer too much?
