Google to cut half of its Play Store fees only for developers

Google is cutting its Play store fee to half for developers this summer. According to the tech giant, 99% of the developers could benefit from this limited-time offer.

According to a recent blog post, the company said:

…reducing the service fee Google Play receives when a developer sells digital goods or services to 15% for the first $1M (USD) of revenue every developer earns each year.

With this offer, 99% of developers worldwide would see “a 50% reduction in fees.”

In November 2020, Apple made a similar offer when it reduced its revenue-sharing fee to 15% for developers making less than $1M in yearly revenue. The key difference between the two companies is that Apple takes a 30% cut if a developer’s annual revenue crosses $1M, whereas Google only takes 30% for any earned revenue over $1M.

It is to be noted that last September, Google actually doubled down on its 30% app store fee, which was reduced after complaints from multiple filing that the app store fee from both companies is too high. Epic Games was one of the complainants.

Though bing players won’t be delighted with this dip in the fee, juvenile developers would feel good and likely to enjoy this time of reduced fees.
