GTA 5 for Android: Take-Two stops planned native porting

An unofficial project that was supposed to bring Grand Theft Auto 5 natively to Android and the Nintendo Switch was halted shortly before release. After legal action, the developers stopped work completely.

Off for the Android port

The developer group Paralympics Productions is stopping work on a native Android version of Grand Theft Auto 5. The group led by project manager Mojso will therefore officially close its doors on October 3, 2026. The reason for this is a cease and desist request from the publisher Take-Two Interactive. To date, users have often resorted to compatibility tools such as Winlator to run the regular PC version of the game on mobile devices. These require a translation layer for the software. However, the now discontinued project took a direct approach. The developers wanted to make the game run natively on ARM-based hardware. This promised improved performance, higher frame rates, lower device temperatures and adapted controls via the touchscreen.

Legal Actions by the Publisher

Loud VideoCardz Take-Two stopped the project. In a message to the community, Mojso confirmed receipt of a corresponding letter and admitted that the publisher had a solid legal basis for this. According to reports, the port was largely based on the game’s source code, which was made public in late 2023, rather than on an independently recreated engine.

In addition to the Android version, a previously published experimental version for the Nintendo Switch console is also affected by the end. According to Mojso, the development will not be continued by other developers. To avoid further legal consequences, Paralympics Productions will not release a playable version or the port’s source code.

A planned performance update for the software, which was reportedly just days away from release, has also been canceled without replacement. For users, the end of the project means that they will continue to have to rely on PC compatibility tools or cloud streaming services to play the title on a smartphone. There is currently no official mobile implementation by the developer studio Rockstar Games.
