HDR10+ standard by Samsung extends its appearance across gaming and set top boxes

In collaboration with Amazon Samsung developed the open and royalty-free HDR10+ standard in 2017. Since then, the standard has occupied various device categories. It has expanded from smartphones to laptops, tablets, TVs, and gaming consoles. As of now, the high dynamic range standard is ready to extend its existence even further. It is going to accumulate in the gaming sector. Thus, set top boxes.

The joint venture between KT, Nvidia, and Amazon will bring HDR10+ to the top of gaming segments. In late 2021, HDR10+ Gaming was announced. It is now going to be introduced across more smart TVs and gaming monitors. KT is the leading telecom operator in South Korea. It is about to introduce real-time HDR10+ video streaming. It will be introduced with a new set-top box. the release is scheduled for Q1 2023.

Previously, Apple was in favor of Dolby Vision over the years. Recently it has integrated HDR10+ into Apple TV 4K [3rd generation] and to the Apple TV+ app on smart TVs. Last month, Nvidia declared that soon it will introduce HDR10+ support on gaming PCs and laptops. It will rely on GeForce RTX and GeForce GTX 16 series graphics cards for this technology. In line with these advancements, Samsung also introduced HDR10+ Adaptive in 2021 to contend with Dolby Vision IQ.

HDR10+ Technology LLC is a company that provides certification as well as testing for devices. As per the South Korean electronics giant, since 2018 the company has certified around 6,000 products. The products have been released by around 142 companies on a global scale.

Over the span of the previous few years, Dolby Vision has achieved much compared to HDR10+. This achievement owes to push from Apple as well as non-Samsung TV brands. Some rumors suggest that Google might bring HDR10+ branding for HDR video and multi-dimensional audio in order to compete with Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision.
