High Profile Twitter Accounts Hacked: By Pro “Turkish Hackers”

After an online diplomatic clash between Netherlands and Turkey, many high profile twitter accounts were hacked and replaced by Anti-Nazi messages written in Turkish. The Twitter accounts of those who had no direct connection with the dispute were also hacked.

The accounts of high profile CEO’s of various companies, Publishers, Government officials and some famous Twitter users were used to deliver messages with hashtags #Nazialmanya #Nazihollanda.

This clash started after President Erdogan suspended diplomatic ties with Netherlands and curb his ministers to address rallies of Turkish Nationals living in Netherlands.

“The Twitter accounts hacked included those of the European Parliament and the personal profile of French politician Alain Juppe”.

They also included the UK Department of Health and BBC North America, both of which subsequently appear to have recovered, along with the profile of Marcelo Claure, the chief executive of U.S. telecoms operator Sprint Corp, which is still hacked.

Other accounts include publishing sites for Reuters Japan, Die Welt and Forbes and several non-profit agencies including Amnesty International and UNICEF USA as well as Duke University.

The Twitter profile of BBC North America noted: “Hi everyone – we temporarily lost control of this account, but normal service has resumed”.
