Pakistan is has shown pacey progress in growth of IT industry, previously in the year 2007-08 there was 39% growth in software and services sector. Moreover there was increase in employment growth in the sector by 41% during the same fiscal years.
According to Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), country exports in IT and IT enable services crossed $2.2 billion.
Freelancers of Pakistan also actively participating in this growth, Managing director of PSEB told Tribune that freelancers contributed $100 million which was one 3rd of $300 generated in domestic sales.
Pakistan’s export of Information Technology (IT) and IT-enabled services (ITES) amount to $2.2 billion in fiscal year 2014-15, according to Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) Managing Director Asim Husain.
In the current year, “Total revenue of IT industry is nearly $2.5 billion which also indicated that almost 88% of IT services are exported.
It must be noted that these stats and figures are reported by PSEB and may not reflect actual size of the industry, a major chunk of international remittances for IT services are not properly documented, if these remittances can be taken into the account then the size could be even bigger than actually reported figures.
