Hogwarts Legacy 2: Warner Bros has now officially confirmed the successor

Warner Bros has officially confirmed the development of Hogwarts Legacy 2. After selling over 40 million units of its predecessor, the new role-playing game will be closely linked to the upcoming HBO series. The release is expected for 2027.
Hogwarts Legacy 2 officially confirmed
The US media group Warner Bros. has now officially confirmed the development of Hogwarts Legacy 2 in August 2026. The action role-playing game, which is set in the Harry Potter universe, is expected to appear in the next year or two and build on the enormous financial success of its predecessor.
The first game sold over 40 million times across platforms and even left industry giants like Call of Duty behind in 2023. Despite the massive success of Hogwarts Legacy, the company’s gaming division has recently struggled. Titles like Suicide Squad did not generate the expected sales, which led to a strategic realignment.
In the future, the group will concentrate on four central core brands, each of which represents a value of over one billion US dollars (around 867 million euros):
Focus on a few large projects
As stated in a recent letter to shareholders (PDF), management continues to view video games as an important growth factor. The company already saw success with Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight in the second quarter. Future releases such as Hogwarts Legacy 2 are expected to make a major contribution to profitability.
In addition to game development, the group plans content overlaps with other media formats. Narrative elements of the new game should be coordinated with the upcoming HBO television series, which is expected to start at the end of 2026. This offers potential for a deeper story, but also requires close coordination between the different development teams.
Improve the weaknesses of the predecessor
Although the first part was commercially successful, there were also criticisms. The game used a very classic open world formula. In addition, moral decisions often had no consequences. This allowed players to use unforgivable curses without the computer-controlled characters in the game reacting. The sequel undoubtedly offers the chance to create a more dynamic and believable world.
Since the complex framework of the digital castle already exists, the developers at Avalanche Software could use existing resources to deepen the game mechanics. An exact release date has not yet been set. Industry observers believe a market launch in 2027 or 2028 is realistic, possibly even matching the market launch of the next generation of consoles such as the PlayStation 6.
