Improved read receipt symbols are now available in Google Messages for Galaxy phones

Most Galaxy phones are presented with a default Google Messages app. Just recently, the Google Messages app substituted the word Chat with RCS. The modification of word chat with RCS was widespread. It modified every section of the app. Even the Settings menu was changed. However, the read receipts were not a part of this new change. But it is going to change as of today. A recent piece of information suggests that Google Messages RCS Chat is on its way to showing improved read receipts.

In the previous version, Google Messages would cycle the messages through four different stages i.e., ‘Sending,’ ‘Sent,’ ‘Delivered,’ and ‘Read.’ The fresh update is provided with the following options:

• a stopwatch or a clock icon: message sending
• one checkmark: for sent messages
• double checkmark: the message is delivered
• a filled double checkmark option: for read messages

Besides this, the group conversations are now presented with the ‘Seen by X’ and ‘Read by all’ icons. In October 2022, the new Google Messages icon system feature was introduced to some users. The feature was presented to users that joined the Google Messages Beta. As of now, Google Messages stable app users have received the read receipt icons.

In any case, icons are more universal in contrast to the text. For this reason, the company might have chosen to adopt the icon approach. Where various messaging apps like Telegram and WhatsApp already use checkmark icons to indicate the status of communication.
