In 2023, Apple was granted almost 2,500 US patents

According to recent pieces of information, the Cupertino-based tech giant Apple secured 2,536 patents in the US in 2023, based on information shared by IFI Claims. Reportedly, Apple was surpassed by six other companies. According to IFI Claims Patent Services’ rankings of the top 50 U.S. patent assignees in 2023, Apple received 251 more patents—or an 11% increase—from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in 2023 than it did the year before. The company’s position in the yearly patent rankings increased as a result.

Apple was outnumbered by Qualcomm, TSMC, IBM, Canon, and Samsung Display in terms of patents granted. With 6,165 issued patents, Samsung Electronics once again surpassed the other leading corporations in size. Apple ranked higher than businesses including Amazon, BOE, Google, Microsoft, LG, Micron, Intel, Huawei, and Toyota. Apple was the undisputed leader in terms of new patents in 2023 among the IFI’s “Magnificent Seven” technology corporations, which also included Google, Amazon, Apple, Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Tesla.

In addition to this, the Global 250 rankings by IFI Claims 2023 indicate the largest patent holders in the world. These rankings are based on the number of patents currently held by companies. Currently, Apple holds 21,407 active patents. It ranked at number 51. In terms of active patents, Panasonic is the world leader. It holds 94,341 patents in total. Samsung, on the other hand, has 92,593 patents.

While Apple’s patent applications frequently provide fascinating insights into the company’s particular R&D sectors, they do not necessarily reflect the company’s short-term goals. Recently, the company filed patents for user authentication technology for AirPods, periscope camera systems, all-glass iPhones and Apple Watches, a hydration sensor for Apple Watch, a removable MacBook key that operates as a mouse, a deployable MacBook Pro foot to help with cooling, and the cheese grater design of the Mac Pro on other Apple devices.
