Kuo: Apple might begin using in-house 5G modems from 2025

For quite some time now, we know that the Cupertino-based tech company has been working on its own 5G modem. Although it’s been a while, there is no iPhone featuring an in-house 5G chipset. Currently, the company uses chipsets provided by Qualcomm. According to some recent pieces of information, Apple might begin using in-house chips in 2025. Until then, the company will stick with Qualcomm, reports analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

It is quite simple with the above-mentioned information that the forthcoming iPhone 15 series and next year’s iPhone 16 series will be powered by Qualcomm’s 5G modems. Given this, the iPhone 17 series might be the first iPhone by the company to feature an in-house 5G modem. In addition to this, we have come across several rumors about the iPhone SE 4. Some reports indicate that it has been postponed until 2025. It might also debut with an in-house 5G chip in 2025.

Currently, there are no details about the company’s 5G modems. For this reason, there is no clarity on which improvements and new features these chips will bring to the iPhone in contrast to Qualcomm’s 5G chips. Besides this, some reports suggested that Apple might utilize an in-house wireless chip for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity on iPhones. The company might release one such iPhone in 2025. Furthermore, Apple is also contemplating combining wireless and cellular chips as a cost-effective measure. The company might improve power efficiency with this approach.
