AMD is increasing prices: processors and graphics cards are becoming more expensive
Anyone currently planning to build a new computer must expect higher costs in the fourth quarter of 2026. The chip manufacturer AMD is preparing a price increase for graphics cards and motherboard chipsets. Processors could also become more expensive.
Price increase for AMD hardware
The US semiconductor manufacturer AMD is planning a price increase of around ten percent for various PC components in the fourth quarter of 2026. Graphics cards, AI accelerators and mainboard chipsets are likely to be affected. The reason for this is increased production costs in the supply chain, which the company passes on to partners and end customers. The trigger for the higher hardware prices lies with the contract manufacturer TSMC.
The Taiwanese company produces the majority of silicon chips for AMD. As raw material costs rise, TSMC has raised prices for its wafers. As a so-called fabless developer without its own production facilities, AMD has little room for negotiation and has to compensate for the increased expenses in order to maintain its own profit margins.
As @harukaze5719 on platform X (via Wccftech) reports, AMD has already informed its partners about the new conditions. What is striking is the inclusion of the mainboard chipsets. Previous price rounds mostly only concerned computing units. For buyers, this means that motherboards will become more expensive in the future because the board manufacturers factor the additional costs into the end customer prices.
Ryzen processors in focus
Although the current reports do not explicitly mention processors from the Ryzen series, a price increase in the segment is likely. AMD’s CPUs are also based on TSMC’s manufacturing technology and are therefore subject to the same economic constraints. It can therefore be assumed that the costs for desktop processors will also increase over the course of the fourth quarter. The situation at AMD is part of a general increase in the price of the PC market.
Anyone who is currently putting together a computer is confronted with several price drivers. RAM and SSDs have been experiencing rising costs for months. Copper coolers and circuit boards for motherboards are also becoming more expensive to produce. Competitor Intel is also planning higher prices for selected processors in the Core Ultra series for October 2026.
