Leak: Better MacBook Pro, MacBook Air with M2

This year, Apple will continue to push the transition to M chips, but facelifts are also on the agenda. According to the leak, the company is planning, among other things, a significantly refreshed MacBook Pro, and the MacBook Air will probably make the leap to the M2.

There are many leaks, but the insider Dylandkt made a name for himself with accurate predictions about the first MacPro models with an M chip and proved his accuracy. Now he wants to be able to make new statements about Apple’s plans for laptop models this year. Of course, the company is said to want to continue to push the switch to M chips, including with a significantly revised MacBook Pro and the new MacBook Air.

The leaker sees the MacBook Pro as a direct successor to the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Apple M1. Apple plans to replace this with a much better equipped MacBook Pro 14 model in the second half of the year. The most important features compared to the predecessor: the revised M2 chip. In addition, one can assume that Apple will also remove the touch bar here and rely on ProMotion technology for 120 Hz displays.

Apple could thus market the new model as an entry-level variant in the Pro class, the differentiation from the current 14 and 16-inch variants with M1 Pro and M1 Max seems rather difficult when equipped with M2, at least because of the numbering. It is currently expected that the M2 will not beat its Pro and Max offshoots in terms of performance. An important positioning feature for the new MacBook Pro is the price, which is said to be “slightly” higher than the current 13-inch model and lower than the other variants.

In addition, Dylandkt also foresees the launch of the new MacBook Air in the second half of the year, which has been doing the rounds through the rumor mill for months. Here, too, an equipment with M2 seems certain, but beyond that there is still no valid information.
