Marvel Announces Next MCU Phases With Two New Avengers Movies
The San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) came to a close this past weekend and the pop culture convention, which was held locally for the first time, also had plenty of trailers and announcements to offer. The most important news was Marvel’s Phase 6 and two new Avengers movies. According to many critics and fans, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is currently in a minor crisis of disorientation. The focus on TV series has also contributed to this, on Disney+ you try a lot, maybe even too much. This sometimes leads to successful results like Loki, but usually to half-baked productions like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which, while not bad, aren’t really good either.
Phase 4 ends with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
But that’s likely to change soon: as the current Phase, 4 of the MCU is coming to an end soon, as Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios, announced at a panel at the SDCC. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be the final film in Phase 4, which hits theaters on November 11, 2022. It is also the next theatrical film, along with the She-Hulk: Attorney at Law series, which premieres on Disney+ on August 17, 2022.
Phase 5 starts in February 2023
It’s almost like Marvel can’t wait to get past phase 4 disoriented. With Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Phase 5 of the MCU will start on February 17, 2023, followed by Secret Invasion, a series that focuses on Nick Fury and Maria Hill and has an alien conflict as its content.
The Guardians of the Galaxy need no further introduction, the space force returns on May 5, 2023 with a new cinematic adventure. Then (summer 2023) follows Echo, the second season of Loki and the film The Marvels, in the fall comes the Ironheart series – we will meet this heroine in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Riri Williams played by Dominique Thorne can certainly be called Ironman – appoint a successor. In the winter of 2023, the witch Agatha (Kathryn Hahn), of WandaVision fame, has her own series called Coven of Chaos.
Daredevil: Born Again is currently the final series of Phase 4, with Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) making its Disney debut in early 2024. Phase 5 also has movies to offer, most notably the fourth Captain America subtitled New World Order (May 3, 2024), The Return of Blade (November 3, 2023), and finally Thunderbolts (July 26, 2024). The latter is a new anti-hero squad made up mostly of former and converted super villains.
Phase 6 is the grand finale of the multiverse
Phase 6 is currently scheduled for November 28, 2024, with a big name that has a far from easy theatrical history, namely Fantastic Four. This phase of the MCU will feature other movies and series, but only two were presented, but definitely the most important: Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (May 2, 2025) and Avengers: Secret Wars (November 7, 2025). This is also the conclusion of “The Multiverse Saga”, ie the phase which according to Marvel includes phases 4 to 6. Not much is known about the next Avengers movies, but comic book fans should have a pretty good idea of what it’s about.
Kang the Conqueror is one of Marvel’s most dangerous super-villains ever, the time-traveling antagonist of the Avengers and Fantastic Four, in particular, was already first seen in a Loki (as a variant called He Who Remains). The Secret Wars crossover has a special ring for Marvel fans because here the Beyonder teleports heroes and villains from Earth to a planet called “Battleworld” where they must fight against each other.
