MediaTek is Skipping 5nm Chips and Will Produce its Own 4nm Chips

MediaTek has become the world’s largest supplier of smartphone chips for 5G devices. But not for the high-end mobile phones; Qualcomm still beats MediaTek. Qualcomm and others, including Samsung and Huawei, already have 5nm chips. Whereas MediaTek still owns a 5nm 5G chip. But it is soon going to change.

Some reports have said that MediaTek is reportedly working on a 4nm process 5G chip, straight from 6nm. Previously, it was also heard that the company was working on a 5nm chip. This news rolled out back in 2020, which stated that the company would introduce its 5nm chip in 2021.

On the other hand, it was also heard that in the second half of 2021, Apple would introduce its A15 Bionic chip with enhanced 5nm process technology. Likewise, it is also reported that Qualcomm would also introduce its next-generation flagship 8 series processor at the end of 2021. But it would be a disaster if MediaTek were to introduce its 5nm chip after all the breakthroughs from its competitors.

But now we heard that MediaTek is skipping the 5nm chip process and will launch a new flagship product with the 4nm process technology. The report claims that MediaTek’s new-generation 5G flagship chip will upgrade to a 4nm process.

It is also noted that MediaTek’s 4nm chip will be comparable to that of Apple and the company already has orders from the likes of OPPO, Vivo, and Xiaomi.

It is pertinent to mention that even when the company is working towards more advanced technology, the new chip is way more expensive than its predecessor. This chip is expected to cost around $80, whereas the price of the current chip is just around $35. This means that only ultra-high-end flagship mobile phones could carry this chip.
