Microsoft app One Outlook: Beta Coming Soon

Microsoft is working on a new Outlook app for Windows and Mac, codenamed Project Monarch. After months of internal testing, the email client could be available for the first preview to Insiders in the dev and beta channels later this spring. Also known as “One Outlook,” the first information and screenshots about a new Redmond-based mail app leaked as early as January 2021, promising a unified design in the style of the web interface currently in use.

However, as is known, a possible planned release before the start of Windows 11 has not been forthcoming and the development of the software has come to a standstill. There are currently significantly different versions of Outlook available for Windows, Mac, on the web, and on mobile devices. if ZDNet author and Microsoft expert Mary-Jo Foley report that this is likely to change in the near future.

One Outlook: Preview in late March 2022

According to their mostly well-informed contacts, Microsoft has been testing “Project Monarch” for months with increasingly large groups of employees. An official announcement of the new app is also planned for this spring. The test version within the Windows 11 Insider Previews in the Dev and Beta channel could therefore be published in late March or early April 2022.

In general, the testing phase should last from July and August until the fall. Microsoft is probably sticking to its plan to permanently replace the neglected email and calendar apps of Windows 10 and Windows 11 with “One Outlook”. However, this process must be done step by step. It remains to be seen whether the new software project will also replace the currently more extensively designed desktop version for professional users within Microsoft 365. It can be assumed that the new email client will be completed as part of the Windows 11 22H2 (Sun Valley 2) feature update by October 2022.
