Microsoft ends support for Windows 10 Tomorrow: users must act now

Millions of Windows 10 machines worldwide will be out of support on May 10. Private users with the Win 10 version 20H2 urgently need to update their PC – because from then on Microsoft will no longer offer security updates.

Not everyone knows what version of Windows is running on the system. That’s not embarrassing at all, because you don’t see it at first glance. But it’s easy to find out. Just press the Windows key and then type the command “winver” and confirm with the Enter key. This command reveals the version number of the installed Windows. The November 2021 update carries version number 21H2. Updates to a new Windows 10 version should just work through Windows Update. If not, you can also update manually, for example with the Media Creation Tool. Keep in mind that creating a backup before switching to another Windows 10 version is important.

Support for Windows 10 will end on October 14, 2025

Windows 11 has sealed the end of Windows 10, October 2025 is the day. With the introduction of Windows 11, the end of Windows 10 was sealed. But Microsoft doesn’t stamp everything overnight here, there’s a reasonable transition period. However, on October 14, 2025, Windows 10 will be over for private users. Then there will be security updates for the last time. Systems that meet the hardware requirements can update to Windows 11 for free. Free change is possible now or later. Microsoft does not set a time limit for the free upgrade.
