Microsoft is hugely interested in buying Nintendo

Microsoft always keeps an eye on things that can improve its customer’s experiences and exposure. For this reason, the company has acquired several companies. When it comes to the gaming industry, Microsoft is considered a giant. On the other hand, Nintendo is a well-known gaming company. The company is operating at its full potential, but Microsoft would love to acquire it if, in the future, it is possible. Well, you read it right. These are the words of Xbox boss Phil Spencer that were shared by him three years ago. It has only recently come to light in a vast number of leaks related to the FTC v. Microsoft lawsuit.

If Nintendo ever went for sale, Microsoft would be willing to purchase it

The leak shows that in an email from August 2020 to two of Microsoft’s top marketing employees, Phil Spencer, the head of Microsoft’s gaming division, stated that “Nintendo is THE prime asset for us in gaming,” adding that “getting Nintendo would prove to be a professional moment, and I genuinely believe it would be beneficial for both companies.”

This is basically Spencer’s response to Takeshi Numoto, another Microsoft executive. Numoto was concerned about why Microsoft was not trying to acquire Nintendo. According to him, acquiring Nintendo could improve Microsoft’s consumer experience. Back then, it was also assumed that Microsoft could acquire TikTok. It makes sense now how the executives of the gaming industry think when it comes to acquiring big companies.

In recent years, as a measure to increase its dominance, Microsoft has been on an extravagant spending spree. In 2022, Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard with $68.7 billion in cash. The financial assets of Microsoft in June 2023 were reported to be $100 billion in cash and cash equivalents. Well, honestly, these are more than enough for a company that intends to go for big acquisitions. This certainly doesn’t indicate that Nintendo is in search of a potential buyer, but if it happens in the future, then Microsoft will rush to strike a deal.
