Microsoft Launches Windows Server vNext Build With Wrong Name

Microsoft starts the year with a new preview version for Windows Server. This is the build for the vNext LTSC server, even if it is still incorrectly marked as Server 2022. Microsoft has also provided new ISOs for testing.

Although the year begins with a new preview build for Windows Server, there are no indications of the changes in the new version. Windows Insiders can now get the new Windows Server vNext Insider Preview Build 25276.

Windows manager Mary Hoffman only published the announcement for the new build in the Techcommunity Server Blog and did not add any details about the content. It just states that once installed, the build still shows up as Windows Server 2022 and not correctly as vNext Windows Server Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC).

There is also a known bug: “The Azure Edition ISO was updated, but there were technical difficulties with the VHDX. The previous VHDX build will remain live for the time being. An updated VHDX file should be available with the next Insider release,” writes Microsoft.

The new build number 25276 is identical to the Windows 11 Insider Update for the developer channel, which was also recently released.

New ISOs

The Windows Server Preview is available in ISO format in 18 languages and in VHDX format in English only. Various language packages are also available for download. If you want to test the preview, you can use one of the keys that Microsoft has provided. The key has not changed since the start of the preview phase.

key

  • Server-Standard: MFY9F-XBN2F-TYFMP-CCV49-RMYVH
  • Datacenter: 2KNJJ-33Y9H-2GXGX-KMQWH-G6H67

These keys are only valid for the servers vNext LTSC Preview builds. The new Windows Server preview update has an expiration date. It expires on September 15, 2023.

Already registered Windows Insiders can navigate directly to the Windows Server Insider Preview download page and start all desired downloads there. If you are not yet registered as an insider, you can do so at any time in the ” Windows Insiders for Business Portal “. There you will also find all the necessary requirements for the Insider program, participation is free of charge. Microsoft writes that the update to the new Build 25276 can be performed as a new installation using the ISO package. Classic release notes were not published.
