Microsoft now brings Update To the latest 22H2 Windows 10

Microsoft has released the scheduled and annual product update for its discontinued Windows 10 model on version 19045 alias “22H2” as a July 2022 update. The “new” Windows 10 22H2 had already revealed itself through the packages in a cumulative update. There are no real innovations.

Windows 10 22H2 for Insiders is official

As Microsoft put it in a message windows blog officially announced that the July 2022 Update, also known as Windows 10 22H2 (2022 2nd half of the year) has officially appeared as Windows 10 Build 19045.1826 in the Release Preview Channel for Windows 10 Insiders. Microsoft also provides the final release as a system image for new installations. This establishes that build 19045 is the basis for 22H2, while builds 19043 and 19044 represent 21H1 and 21H2 respectively.

Officially no new features

After the operating system, which offers no new functions compared to the previous version and should be replaced by its successor Windows 11 in any case in the medium term, the operating system reports to the user via Start menu → System → About as a Windows 10 22H2 (OS Build 19045.1806). Windows 10 21H2 the last “feature update”

Since Microsoft’s main focus is now clearly on Windows 11, chances are not bad that Windows 10 21H2 was the last true “feature update” for Microsoft’s “old” operating system. While there is still a long way to go before official Windows 10 product support for residential users ends (support ends October 14, 2025), Microsoft will only provide monthly service and security updates in the future.

That means Insiders who are currently in the Release Preview channel can download and install it if they wish under Settings and Windows Update / Windows 10, version 22H2. Once an Insider has upgraded their PC to Windows 10, version 22H2, they will continue to receive new service updates automatically through Windows Update (the typical monthly update process). In addition to feature update KB5015684, which is already available through the Release Preview Channel, and the latest system image updated to Build 19045.1826 for Insiders, Windows 10 22H2 is also available through Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) and the Azure Marketplace. To see the update, Insiders must actively check it through Windows Updates. Companies that participate in the program as Insiders for Business are automatically offered the update to validate their systems.

In the shadow of Windows 11

Microsoft will quietly distribute the update to Windows 10 22H2 via Windows Update, feature updates for the predecessor of Windows 11 are no longer discussed at all on the insider program website. Microsoft’s focus is now entirely on the upcoming release of Windows 11 22H2 and Windows 11 23H2, slated for fall 2023.

Already using Windows 11?

After about 65 percent of respondents in an October 2021 survey said they hadn’t switched to Windows 11 yet, community rejection rose to about 71 percent in January this year.
