Microsoft Releases Edge Browser For Windows 10X And HoloLens 2

Edge

Although the Windows 10X operating system variant has not yet been released, the Redmond-based company Microsoft has made a build of the Chromium-based Edge browser available for the new Windows version. It is unclear whether this is an oversight.

For some time now, the Microsoft website has offered the option of downloading different preview versions of the Edge browser. Users can choose between beta, dev, and canary builds. All channels are updated at different intervals. The operating system used on the PC can be selected before the download. In addition to macOS, Windows 10, Windows 8, and Windows 7, there are now two new versions.

This is a build for Windows 10X and a version for the mixed reality glasses HoloLens. The two builds are available on all three Insider channels. Why Microsoft is now offering an Edge version for Windows 10X is still unclear. The operating system is not expected to see the light of day until next year. Therefore, it is possible that the build was accidentally released. So far, the Redmond-based company has not yet officially commented on the new Windows 10X version.

As soon as an attempt is made to install the Windows 10X build on a normal Windows 10 PC, according to Windows Latest, an error message appears. According to the reasoning, the app can only run on devices with “Windows.Core”, “Windows.Holographic” and “Windows.Xbox”. This indicates that the Chromium-based Edge browser will soon also be available as a version for the Xbox.
