Microsoft will increase the standard protection for all users with an update for Office 365. In addition, there will be new functions for Microsoft Defender for Office 365 – formerly known as Advanced Threat Protection.
This is reported by Bleeping Computer. Accordingly, Microsoft has already started distributing a major update for Defender for Office 365. Microsoft is now introducing built-in protection in Defender for Office 365, a new feature that automatically activates recommended settings and policies to ensure that all new and existing users receive at least the basic protection features.
Microsoft Defender for Office 365 (formerly known as Office 365 Advanced Threat Protection or Office 365 ATP) provides Office 365 corporate email accounts with automatic attack remediation and protects them from various threats including the compromise of business email and the so-called credential phishing. Credential phishing is intended to trick employees into giving their login data to third parties, usually in the belief that they are passing the data on within the company.
The fact that Microsoft is now activating new protective functions by default is primarily due to the fact that they are otherwise – even if they are known – not activated in many companies. “Some security controls are being overlooked, resulting in some or all users being inadequately protected,” said Sundeep Saini, Defender for Office 365 senior program manager, explaining this important change. Failure to activate these important protections can result in malicious messages such as B. phishing messages unintentionally end up in the inbox.
However, these are often the gateway for hacker and ransomware attacks. In the roadmap for Microsoft 365 you can find more details about it. The rollout for this new standard security preset will begin in November and will continue through the end of the year for standard multi-tenants worldwide, with general availability in December.
