Microsoft Windows Mixed Reality Developer Headsets Are Now On Sale

Microsoft as verge reported is now developing two Windows Mixed Reality headsets that are available to all. The American software giant listed on as Acer’s headset for $299 and HP headset for $329.

Both are almost similar in terms of specifications, both have the same 2.89-inches display and 6 degrees freedom tracking mixed reality world.

The development kits use internal tracking sensors, which basically removes the need for using external cameras and markers. Verge comments that experience of these headsets is relatively similar to VR headsets; nevertheless, it comes under “Mixed Reality” branding.

Difference Between VR AR and MR

Virtual reality as we know it is more immersive, it is a 3D experience virtually, for instance watching a movie in 3D is a virtual reality. Basically an experience of virtual things in a real world or like the real world. Today there are many VR headsets available in the market including Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Play Station VR and Samsung Gear2.

Augmented reality, on the other hand, is the real world experience with virtual things, an example is when you see a wall in your home mounted with mobile apps, or you see a large dragon fly buzzing around you, everything is real but the dragon fly.

The mixed reality is a mixture of both these experiences, the VR technology is in developing phase and still need a lot of improvements, AR is still a long way to become something incredible. Microsoft’s so called mixed reality is not what it suggests when AR and MR would be out probably in next 10 to 20 years from now you would be baffled and may not be able to differentiate between the created reality and reality itself.
