Netflix Bets on the Stars: New Astrology Hub Recommends Shows by Zodiac Sign

For streaming services, it is extremely important to somehow keep users on the shelf – ideally by presenting them quickly that could fit for them. Netflix now also reaches into the esoteric trick box.

Via zodiac sign to the right series

The agony of choice has long been part of everyday streaming: countless films and series are ready, but often the evening ends with scrolling menus for minutes without deciding. In order to meet this “decision paradox”, providers have been relying on new strategies for years – from prominent new releases to algorithmic recommendations to ranking lists of the most viewed content.

Now Netflix goes one step further and combines pop culture with esotericism. At the weekend, the streaming provider officially presented the “Astrology Hub“Before. Subscribers can receive suggestions on the basis of their zodiac sign in the future. Instead of clicking through endless categories, the planetary constellation should show the way to the appropriate series evening at the time of birth.

Löwen, for example, are considered with the note “Playing the leading role” and receive recommendations such as The Crown, Emily in Paris or Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. Capricorns are supposed to “walk” and get films such as hostage or Blackberry presented. Sagittarius-born, in turn, should experience adventure-Netflix advises you to Indiana Jones or Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse.

Poor watermen

But not all zodiac signs get away equally well. It is particularly hard with the watermen: According to Netflix, they are considered “not of this world” and have to be satisfied with less glamorous suggestions-including the weaker men in black sequel, the action disaster Battleship or Zack Snyder’s science fiction epic rebel moon. It remains unclear whether the new feature is meant seriously or above all serves as a marketing gag. The link between astrology and streaming should above all address a young target group – those who, anyway often, believe in a meaning of zodiac signs above average.

For years, experts have pointed out that astrology has no scientific basis, since distant stars are guaranteed not to have any influence on the fate of individuals.
