New Models: Everything about FritzBox 5690 Pro and FritzBox 7690

AVM is expanding its router range with two new top models. The FritzBox 7690 is the new top device for DSL, the FritzBox 5690 Pro is suitable for fiber optics as well as DSL. On board are Wi-Fi 7, Zigbee, and, in the future, Matter. We provide all the information.

Anyone who wants to equip their home network with high-quality hardware from AVM can now choose from two new devices. The DSL model FritzBox 7690 is available in stores now and starts with a recommended price of 329 euros, the FritzBox 5690 Pro is taking a little longer and should be available “in the course of June” for 359 euros. Both models share many features, which we will examine in more detail below.

The DSL top model FritzBox 7690

With the FritzBox 7690, AVM is setting a new benchmark in its DSL offering. Top speeds of 300 Mbit/s are possible. Thanks to Wi-Fi 7 support at both 5 and 2.4 GHz and 4×4 configuration over eight antennas, a Wi-Fi speed of up to 7.2 Gbit/s can be achieved – twice as much as the predecessor. Two 2.5 Gbit/s LAN ports and two 1 Gbit/s LAN ports are on board for wired networking.

AVM emphasizes that VPN performance has also increased significantly. Connections via IPsec are three times faster than the predecessor, and WireGuard is six times faster. In addition, it is optimally equipped for smart home applications. In addition to FritzDECT, Zigbee is also supported, and all necessary preparations for supporting Matter have been made.

The most important performance data of the AVM FritzBox 7690

  • Integrated DSL router
  • Supports DSL including Supervectoring 35b up to 300 MBit/s
  • Dual-band WiFi mesh, 4×4 on 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz / Wi-Fi 7
  • Wi-Fi speed: 5 GHz: up to 5,760 Mbit/s (Wi-Fi 7); 2.4 GHz: up to 1,440 Mbit/s (Wi-Fi 7)
  • 1x 2.5 Gigabit LAN/WAN port, 1x 2.5 Gigabit LAN port and 2 LAN ports with 1 GBit/s
  • Can be used on fiber optic modem (ONT) with 2.5 GBit/s (WAN)
  • Telephony via DECT, IP/SIP, and 2 analog telephone connections (FXS)
  • Smarthome via DECT ULE and Zigbee, Matter in preparation
  • 1x USB 2.0 for mobile sticks (5G/4G) as well as storage media and printers

Fiber optic and DSL with the FritzBox 5690 Pro

With its integrated modems, AVM positions the FritzBox 5690 Pro as a top device for the “switch from copper cable to fiber optic”. With DSL, 300 Mbit/s can be achieved, with fiber optic up to 2.5 Gbit/s.

Thanks to Triband Mesh, this power is also distributed wirelessly over the new 6 GHz frequency band, and at 5 GHz and 6 GHz also via Wi-Fi 7. Up to 18.5 GBit/s are then available wirelessly via twelve antennas. Four 1 GBit/s LAN ports and one 2.5 GBit/s LAN port can be used for wired connections. For smart home and VPN, the improvements are based on the FritzBox 7690 model.

The most important performance data of the AVM FritzBox 5690 Pro
