Notepad Tabs In Windows 11 To Arrive Soon

Microsoft has already made some adjustments to Notepad for Windows 11. Another feature has now been leaked from an internal test version: the notepad app will soon also have tabs.

At least that’s what a screenshot of an internal build of Windows Notepad that has surfaced online shows. It was quickly deleted again but is now making its rounds through the relevant news sites. According to a report by Windows Central, the development is still in an early test phase.

The screenshot shows a tabbed version of the app. Notepad could be the next application after File Explorer to get tabs in Windows 11.

Tabs are simply practical for managing several tasks at the same time and have proven themselves – they can be used more clearly than several app windows. The feature allows users to open multiple folders and directories in one window, just like a web browser can open multiple web pages in one window.

The Notepad screenshot was spotted in a now-deleted tweet from a Microsoft employee that mentioned the feature as new. The screenshot shows a version of Notepad with a confidential warning at the top that reads, “Do not discuss features or take screenshots.” Like File Explorer, the tabs can be seen at the top of the application and allow the user to open multiple .txt files in the same window and quickly switch between them.

If the image is from an internal build, it shouldn’t be too long before Windows Insiders get a trial version of Notepad with the tabs. So let’s wait.
