Nvidia and AMD are using CES 2022 to present two affordable graphics cards for entry-level gaming with the GeForce RTX 3050 and the Radeon RX 6500 XT. Both GPUs support ray tracing technology and theoretically start for $250 and $ 200, respectively. The two graphics cards are due to appear this month, although the realistic prices at online retailers and the like remain to be seen due to the lack of chips and persistently high demand. At least on paper, both models are expected to rank in Europe for less than 300 euros, whereby Nvidia can achieve a clear lead in terms of performance – at least according to the first specifications.
Nvidia is ahead of the game when it comes to entry-level gaming
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 should rely on 2560 Cuda cores (shader units) and enable GPU clock rates between 1552 and 1777 MHz. In addition, the Ampere graphics card has 8 GB of GDDR6 video memory on a 128-bit interface with a bandwidth of 224 GB / s. The power consumption is 130 watts. Nvidia states that the RTX 3050 will double the performance of the GTX 1650 from 2019 and that even fluid ray tracing gameplay should be possible with a Full HD resolution.
AMD, on the other hand, relies on a partially activated Navi 24 chip for the new Radeon RX 6500 XT with only 1024 shader units and an infinity cache of just 16 MB in addition to 4 GB of GDDR6 video memory. The chip clock rates are specified as 2610 to 2815 MHz, while the memory is set up with a 128-bit connection and a bandwidth of 256 GB / s (effective 305 GB / s). Accordingly, the RDNA 2 graphics card only consumes 107 watts. AMD also compares the RX 6500 XT with Nvidia’s GTX 1650 and states an increased performance of up to 60 percent.
Availability and prices
The AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT will kick off the new entry-level graphics card for gamers on January 19, 2022, for the aforementioned $200. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 will follow on January 27, 2022, for $ 250. The final prices for Entire Europe and the possible custom designs remain to be seen.
