Microsoft Outlook has long been a quasi-standard when it comes to e-mail and is therefore used by many people. If you want quick access to Outlook via browser, you get such an option, because a suitable extension is coming soon. You certainly don’t have to explain how practical add-ons for browsers are, because the small additional applications allow certain tasks to be carried out quickly and easily.
Like Dr. Windows reports that the Redmond-based company is currently working on an extension for its Edge browser, with which one can get quick access to the most important functions of Outlook and thus also e-mail via a special interface.
Incidentally, the extension is not entirely unprecedented, because the Office add-on that is already available offers a similar solution, but for the Microsoft office suite in general and not specifically for mail applications.
The add-on will support both private Microsoft accounts, i.e. Outlook.com, and access via Office 365 or Microsoft 365. As far as functionality is concerned, the extension will allow access to the inbox, calendar, contacts, and tasks. This is possible via a symbol (which can be “hidden” if desired) in the upper right corner of the browser; when you click on it, a menu with the corresponding functionalities opens.
The extension is currently being developed for Microsoft’s own browser Edge. Since Edge is now based on Chromium, this add-on will also run without any problems on Google Chrome or be officially available in the Chrome Store. The when is not yet known, but it shouldn’t be too long before the extension is actually available.
