Pixel August Update Fixes Gesture Navigation Bug and Patches Critical Security Flaws

Google has released the August update for pixel devices and finally fixes the disturbing bug with the gesture navigation, which has plagued many users since Android 15. In addition, the update closes critical security gaps.

Gesture navigation finally fully functional again

Google has released the August update for its pixel devices and thus primarily fixes a stubborn bug that has caused considerable frustration among users since the publication of Android 15. The problem with the not reacting back gesture in the gesture navigation appeared to be randomly occurred by many users and could only be temporarily remedied by a complete restart of the device. The update bears the Build number BP2A. 2550805.005 for most devices and is provided for all pixel models from pixel 6 to the current Pixel 9 series.

It is noteworthy that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro were also included in the update list after they were surprisingly missing in the July update. Google originally promised to supply these models with security updates by October 2026 – an announcement that the company now complies with again. As Android police reports, the navigation bug is one of the most stubborn problems that Pixel users have been concerned with in the past few months. The error occurred particularly often after a long use and made the intuitive gesture control, which is a key feature of modern Android devices, practically unusable.

Critical security gaps closed

In addition to the repair of the navigation bug, the August update closes several serious security gaps. The CVE-2024-48530 weak point, which was classified as critically, enabled attackers to carry out harmful code on the device without the user not having to notice any of it or perform an action. This so-called “Zero-Click” weak point is particularly dangerous because it does not require user interaction. A total of six security gaps were closed, including two vulnerabilities classified as a high -risk. In addition to the Android-wide fixes, the update also contains a pixel-specific security correction for a modem weak point that could theoretically use for attacks on the mobile phone connection.

The update also fixes a problem with the planned Dark Theme, which was not activated correctly under certain circumstances. Users reported that the dark design sometimes did not change at the set time or was not presented correctly in individual apps. Google also promises general improvements in system stability and performance, but without calling specific details. As usual, the update is distributed and can take up to a week for all devices to be reached. Users can search manually for the update by tapping the button “Find” for updates in the settings under “System” -> “Software updates” -> “System update”.
