Posting text-based status updates could be made simpler by WhatsApp

Beta testers of app usually get to preview under-development features. There is an equal chance that these features might make their way to the stable version of the app or might not. WhatsApp continuously work and test out new features. Recently, it was working on an update for status. Reportedly, users might get an upgrade to post lengthier videos via status updates. As of now, the company is now working on another upgrade for status.

The new feature was spotted in the app’s latest beta for Android by WABetaInfo. According to details, it is a redesigned editor page for status updates. The redesigned page now shows the Text option at the bottom of the screen beside the Video and Photo option. WhatsApp only allows picture and video updates at this time through the Updates tab’s My status option. You may also set an image/video status by touching the camera FAB (floating action button), which is located beneath the pencil icon in the Updates tab’s lower right corner.

At the moment, users can only use the text-based status editor by tapping the Updates tab’s pencil symbol. It’s important to note that after you’ve visited the editor/preview page on WhatsApp, you are unable to change the status type (text, photo, or video). In this case, returning and starting over is the only viable course of action. It appears that the recent revamp of the chat app has caused a few issues. Given that new change renders the pencil and camera FABs obsolete, it’s unclear if WhatsApp will do away with them.

Keeping all of this in mind, it makes sense to combine the three status update types. According to WABetaInfo such an approach makes them more accessible and requires less taps. Although the website states that this latest update hasn’t yet reached all beta testers, we anticipate that a revamp of this feature will soon be made more generally accessible.
