Predictive Back Gesture is expected to arrive in Galaxy devices with the Android 14 update

Google has apparently started working on a new feature for Android 13. The new feature is known as Predictive Back Gesture. This feature provides a preview or other results of a back gesture before it is completed.

Ultimately, Google has shared the exciting news that Predictive Back Gesture will be a built-in feature in Android 14. Additionally, it will also work within applications.

Accessing the back screen using the back gesture on Android devices is outstanding. You just have to swipe the gesture on the screen and you will see the results. However, sometimes you could get switched from the app to your home screen. Here, the new amazing feature of the back gesture that will provide you with a preview of your action could be really helpful. It will arrive on Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones as well as tablets having the Android 14-based One UI 6.0 update.

Given the Predictive Back Gesture, the navigation experience on Android devices will be enhanced and even more reliable.

The new feature will work as follow: when you swipe the left or right edge of the screen to perform the back gesture, the actual page of the page will shrink and show the page that will appear once your action is completed. Thus, saving users from accidentally leaving the important pages of the app. As of now, users can enjoy this feature on apps having Android 13 like Google TV and Google phones. be sure, to enable the feature first before exploring it.

You can enable the feature from the Developer options. Just follow these simple steps to enable the feature on your device.

  • Navigate to Settings
  • Go to About Phone
  • Tap on “Build number” seven times
  • Search for “Predictive back animations” under Developer options
  • Turn it on

Once you have enabled the feature, any back gesture will provide you with a preview of your action, with the home screen showcased in the background. Some reports by 9to5Google suggested that this feature also works with the Google Calendar app.
