Samsung Confirms New Data Breach

For the second time this year, electronics giant Samsung has had to confirm unknown hackers’ access to its internal network. This time, customer data is also affected. So far, however, only access to data by US citizens has been confirmed.

That reports that Bleeping Computer Online Magazine. The electronics giant Samsung has therefore confirmed a new data breach. According to the group, some of its US systems have been hacked to steal customer data.

Unknown access became known after a few days

According to the company, the incident took place in late July 2022. It wasn’t until August 4 that Samsung discovered that personal customer data had been accessed and “smuggled” out of the company’s network.

The attackers stole sensitive customer information such as names, contact and demographic information, dates of birth, and product registration information, but no social security number or credit card number.

Still investigating

“Samsung has detected the incident and has taken steps to secure the affected systems. As part of our ongoing investigation, we have engaged a leading third-party cybersecurity firm and are working with law enforcement agencies,” Samsung said. “Each customer’s affected data may vary.

We are advising our customers to make them aware of this matter,” the company continued. Samsung now advises those affected to take extra care if they are approached by the hackers:

• Be wary of unsolicited communications that ask for your personal information or redirect you to a website that asks for your personal information
• Avoid clicking links or downloading attachments from suspicious emails
• Check your accounts for suspicious activity

This is the second major data breach confirmed by Samsung this year. In March, hacker group Lapsus$ blackmailed Samsung and stole confidential information, including source code, from Galaxy devices.
