Samsung is allegedly developing 1-inch and 440-megapixel camera sensors

When it comes to top mobile camera sensor manufacturers, Samsung is one name that comes to mind. Over the past few years, the company has unveiled some great camera sensors. In 2022, Samsung debuted its first 200MP camera sensor. As of now, the company is all set to introduce a 440MP camera sensor.

ISOCELL GN6 might be the company’s first 1-inch camera sensor

As per the information shared by tipster Revegnus, the South Korean tech firm is working on three different camera sensors. These include the 50MP ISOCELL GN6, 200MP ISOCELL HP7, and 440MP ISOCELL HU1. The ISOCELL GN6 is believed to be a member of the ISOCELL GN1 and ISOCELL GN2 camera sensors. The new ISOCELL GN6 will feature a large 1.6μm pixel size.  In contrast, the ISOCELL GN2 features a 1.4µm pixel size, and the ISOCELL GN1 showcases a 1µm pixel size. So, this is a massive upgrade in comparison.

If the above-mentioned information is believed to be true, the ISOCELL GN6 would be the company’s first 1-inch camera sensor and would be a direct competitor to Sony’s IMX989 sensor. It would be a good choice for the flagship units.

The ISOCELL HP7 camera sensor

The rumored information suggests that the 200MP ISOCELL HP7 features a 0.6µm individual pixel size. It is the same pixel size as offered with the 200MP ISOCELL HP2 camera sensor that was utilized with the Galaxy S23 Ultra. This information predicts that the ISOCELL GN6 is a descendant of the camera sensor featured in the Galaxy S23 Ultra. In the future, it might debut with some enhancements and improvements. On the other hand, the high-end and higher mid-range smartphone units could feature the ISOCELL HP7 camera sensor.

ISOCELL HU1 might serve as the company’s first 440MP camera sensor

Reportedly, the 440 MP ISOCELL HU1 is bigger than the 1-inch ISOCELL GN6. Currently, there is no information about the utility of this sensor. It might be used in smartphones or in cars that accompany the driving assistance features given the fact that Samsung manufactures camera sensors for mobile devices as well as modern cars. In the past, the company showcased its concern and emphasis on the development of a camera sensor that features 600 MP resolution.
